The Brexit Deal

brexit deal

In light of the very fluid and fast changing circumstances surrounding the movement of goods between the EU and UK we continue to recommend keeping stock at prudent levels.

brexit dealThe first bit of hope that 2021 provides us exporters to the UK is the confirmation of the long awaited Brexit deal! It took four and a half years of waffle, hype and bluster with negotiations that felt like you’d have a better chance of drawing blood from a stone. Predictably negotiators left it simmer until they reached the very edge of the cliff but thankfully common sense and reason prevailed just in time to prevent the plummet that would have made no sense for either party.

The deal isn’t perfect and there will be more checks at borders but it does ensure a mostly tariff free trading relationship. There is relief in the dairy sector that a deal has been agreed. The relationship between Ireland & the UK is especially important for the dairy industry due to the volume of product trading between the two countries. The UK market is very reliant on dairy supply from across the Irish sea and the deal agreed protects the Irish agri food sector which is vital for the domestic economy.

In light of the very fluid and fast changing circumstances surrounding the movement of goods between the EU and UK we continue to recommend keeping stock at prudent levels.
