In 2022, governments and industry bodies across Europe were announcing climate policies, emissions targets and measures intended to address energy use, agricultural production and environmental impacts. This article summarises some of the commentary and proposals being discussed at that time.
At the time of publication, Irish climate policy included long-term emissions-reduction objectives and sector-specific discussions affecting agriculture. The targets, timelines and policy measures referred to in this article reflect the position reported in 2022 and may since have changed.
The article also referred to concerns expressed by members of the farming community about how climate measures could affect production, livelihoods and rural communities.
